Tephrocactus or Cumulopuntia ?

Post by fabricius »

Hello

I have purchased this plant from a local producer here nearby Aix en Provence, who does not put labels on his plants.

Cumulopuntia sp.JPG

Possibly a Tephrocactus or Cumulopuntia ?

Thks for your advice.

It's a Cumulopuntia. This looks like the plant we know as C. ferocior, which is usually treated as a synonym of Cumulopuntia chichensis.
Compare with:
http://wiki.plantae.se/index.php/Cumulo ... chichensis
http://www.tephroweb.ch/cumul/cumuferoc.htm
The plants on p70-71 of https://cactuspro.com/biblio/en:kiessling
http://www.cactusexplorers.org.uk/TSG_download.htm 2007, 13(3), 38 (there's loads of discussion about boliviana/ferocior/chichensis over the course of several editions of the TSG around this time)
Phil Crewe, BCSS 38143. Mostly S. American cacti, esp. Lobivia, Sulcorebutia and little Opuntia
