SOUTH WEST SUCCULENT SPRING FAIR APRIL 1st 2023.

Post by tonyironscacti »

This will be the first year of this brand new event taking place at our traditional venue of the Portishead Youth Centre, Portishead, Nr Bristol.

The Venue is The Portishead Youth Centre

1, Harbour Road, Portishead, Bristol. BS20 7DD.

This is just 1.5 miles from Junction 19 {Gordano Services} M5.

The venue will be opening at 9.30 - 1.30 with £2 entry.

The first 100 through the door will receive a 'goody bag' of surprise items to celebrate this fresh event. Naturally the early attendees will get the first choice of the plants available plus you will have a chance to attend all 4 workshops we are running throughout this event.

The snack bar will be open throughout the day to keep your stomach full !

The ground floor space will be occupied by the various stands whilst the Nautical Room will be used for the 4 expert led workshops helping you to understand how to care for these plants and to get the best out of your plants.

A list of those sellers booked in are listed below.

COASTAL SUCCULENTS & CACTI.........Chris has a beautiful nursery in Rooksbridge, Somerset and he ia more than welcome back to one of our branch events with his beautiful Aeoniums and other large succulent plants.

THE CACTUS SHOP { Ralph Northcott }.......Ralph is well established at most of the large events held throughout the country as well as to visitors at his N. Devon nursery....well worth talking to him with his wealth of knowledge.

MINT PLANTS.......Hayley has a stunning shop near the centre of Bristol gradually devoting more space to popular cacti & succulents. Her online shop also provides BEF pots, Soparco pots and other suitable containers for our plants.

OGIE PLACIDO........A warm welcome to one of our branch members who now runs a fulltime nursery selling Aloe hybrids as well as other choice plants for which he has built up a large following & customer base.

BENJAMIN TURNER.......his 3rd event here in Bristol at our 'SouthWest' fairswho sells a large range of mostly small succulents. Again good to see him travelling up from Southampton.

ALAN WEADON.......s one of our local growers who tends to grow the choice cacti & succulents sort after by growers. Anything you need to know about these plants then he is the one to ask.

WOODSIDE CACTI.......a welcome return to Carlos & Terri with his wide spread of succulent plants and associated gifts & sundries......hope the trip from Lincolnshire and back is worth it !

WILIAMS CACTI......Craig has attended all our South West events here since they started 12 years ago and is always a popular trader.

IANS HAWORTHIAS........Ian is well known at the big shows so it is encouraging to have enticed him down from Yorkshire for the first time to sell all his choice plants.

WILD LEAF.......A big plant shop from Central Bristol who will be attending this first succulent only event here in Portishead....a warm welcome to you.

PICCOLO PLANTS.......first time here for this latest succulent nursery coming up from mid Devon with their choice succulents.....welcome.

OTTERSAW CACTI.......2nd time for this popular nursery that appeared for the first time at our South West Cacti, Succulent & Exotic Plant Fair last June.

At this Fair we will be running 4 expert led workshops in the Nautical Room.......

WILD LEAF.......'EPIPHYTES'. How to grow & keep them warm & happy at home.

MINT PLANTS......'UNUSUAL SUCCULENTS'. Why I love them & how to keep them happy.

COASTAL SUCCULENTS......'AEONIUMS'. From species to sexy variegated forms & everything inbetween.

OGIE PLACIDO.......'ALOE'. The wonders of Aloe hybrids.

Timing of these 4 workshops will be announced on the day.

Neighbouring roads and car parks are easily available for car parking if the on site car park is full.

Please make a note in your diary, so that you do not miss out on attending.

Members & the general public are all welcome.

I look forward to welcoming you all on the day.

Cheers

Unfortunately, due to imminent child birth the owners of Piccolo Plants will be unable to attend, but I'm sure we will see them here in future years.

Due to sickness we have had to make a few adjustments at the last minute.

Chris Rixton of COASTAL SUCCULENTS will not be able to run any further stalls for his plants during April 2023, plus his workshop on Aeoniums has had to be dropped.

However it does mean the other existing sellers are now able to enlarge there selection of plants available on the day of the Fair with more tables.

Personally, I am somewhat disabled at present and not able to do a lot of the physical work I have previously been able to do, which means Hayley of MINT PLANTS will be managing the Fair doing all the usual things I have previously done. It does mean though that her workshop will not be able to be given........maybe I can ask her to do that at next years Fair !

Otherwise all things are drawing together nicely and ready for the influx of visitors on the day.

Don't forget the first 100 through the doors will receive a free 'goody bag'.

Hope to see everyone on the day.

Tony.

Hi,

This has been a highly successful Fair, so due to this will now become an Annual Event .

The 100 'Goody Bags' were given out in the first 20 minutes and were very well received by the general public.

The talks/workshops also attracted a lot of interest, with loads of feedback from the visitors, so this will also be part of the now Annual Spring Fair.

Cheers

Well that would be telling......you would have had to be an early entrant to find out, however each one had slightly different contents and the feedback from this was very positive.

Maybe see you early next year for your 'Goody Bag' ??
