Anyone know anything about KP187?

Post by Cidermanrolls »

I have this Pterocactus, labelled as P megliolii KP187. I cannot find this field number on Ralph’s database.
I suspect that it is not megliolii, but more likely australis or fischeri. Looking at Sarnes’ online book the habitats of these do not overlap, so a natural hybrid appears unlikely. An horticultural hybrid is possible, but without knowledge of the collection number I cannot guess at when the original seed was collected. The plant was purchased in 2019 from one of the Polish eBay sellers.
Can anyone throw any light on this plant?

You can find the number on https://www.cl-cactus.com/default.asp
I always use both this one and the one from Ralph to find things, sometimes ones has the information. When they have it both, I compared if it is the same (not always).

Thanks both. So the name and collection number go together.
But does anyone else feel that the plant doesn’t look like a megliolii? It’s nothing like any of the other megliolii plants in my collection.

It looks different if I compare it with the free PDF available on http://cactus-de-patagonia.de/wp-conten ... _SAR_E.pdf
But I would not rule it out just yet.

For what it's worth, I'd have guessed P. fischeri if I was given it without a name.

Perhaps Norbert will give us his opinion...

KP 187 is only listed as a form of P. megliolii f. by Petr Kupcak so even he had his doubts.
I would say P. fischeri like Ralph.
