Gasteria- one for Tony/Stuart

Post by Ernie »

I have had this for a longtime without giving much thought to its correct name. I am now not happy with the name that was supplied with it. Can either Tony or Stuart say what they think it is then I will post the name as supplied. Thank you.

Okay so no offers on its identity. It was sold to me as Gasteria excelsa is it or is'nt it? I got it from Abbey brook. label says ex selectra 10/95. It does not seem much like excelsa to me.

Sorry Ernie, didn’t see this earlier, hard to tell from the photo but nothing to suggest Excelsa, if from Abbey Brook then probably Bicolor. It has the look of a Brachyphylla but I’d need to see it ‘in the flesh’. Tony might help if you have a close up of the flowers.

Given the matt-ness of the leaves rather than shiny, more likely to be disticha rather than brachyphylla.

Disticha leaves usually are more succulent and matt, I’m still going with Brachyphylla.
