May 2024 - pots matching plants, or plants matching pots

Post by MatDz »

Thank you Aiko once again for nomination, after consulting this matter with Paul he gave me a green light to choose a topic, so here we are.

I am aware this might be a little risky, but after seeing a few great examples recently (one being Tina's Euphorbia makeover here viewtopic.php?p=340917#p340917, and another one from a bonsai display I have seen recently, where this Saxifraga sp. was used as a "companion plant" for one of the trees) I would like to see more photographs of plants matching pots, or pots matching plants, whichever way you want to look at this.

Love those bonsai trees.

Here's an astrophytum capricorne to get things started.

I wanted to put more focus on the little Saxifraga, but the trees were also amazing indeed

Thanks for a great start! Shame I do not have any fancy pots myself hah.

Sorry for the comment, but I couldn't resist. Almost all hybrids of E. colorata and, E. laui look great, particularly with each other.

Your pot combination looks quite nice, and should work well for some time. The rest of your posts are also well balanced.

Oh gosh, yes, they should be kept behind glass and never looked at or they get marks...

This year I'm moving from plastic to ceramic. Here's a small snapshot from the greenhouse this afternoon.

Thanks everyone for participating in last month's photo competition! I am really glad I chose the topic I did. With 12+ high-quality entries, it was really hard to choose the winner!

I shortlisted the following entries:
  • The very first entry, greatnorthernexotic's Astrophytum capricorne with a great, habitat-like planting.
  • Ernie's Crassula namaquensis in a pot, which certainly displayed the plant very well and provided a contrast that nicely complemented the plant itself.
  • Another one of Ernie's entrances, the Pachyveria 'Glacier' in a pot that provided great color and height coordination for the plant.
I changed my mind a few times, but the winner of May's photo competition is greatnorthernexotic's Astrophytum capricorne for its three-way match of pot, substrate, and the plant itself. Congratulations!

Thank you! I will be setting June's competition tonight, once I've decided between the two ideas I have for a theme.
