Great looking plant, Stephen! IMO Melos are never easy to ID until fully mature, but I will throw my hat in the ring for M. zehntneri (Taylor):

Not sure what it'd be, but it certainly is an impressive looking plant - cephalium starting and all...

Hi

Please post close up pictures of the cephalium, the spines and the measurements (height, diameter, number of spines in a cluster length of spines) the colour of the flowers and fruits can also help in ID's

Melo's are difficult to identify, I?ve got 3 I?m still trying to ID, (had them for a number of years) narrowed them down to a choice of 3, but unless I have access to an electron microscope to look at the pollen, I doubt I?ll get any closer.

Picture of my Melocactus Intortus .
