Austrocactus - secondary germination
This last few days has seen extra seedlings pop up in around half of my 20+ Austrocactus sowings from this year. I've had occasional late ones in previous years but this seems to be exceptional. I'm putting it down to a few weeks of bright and warm days and cooler nights - basically reproducing the conditions in the propagator in February when the earlier ones popped up.

Good result and a lesson not to be too hasty in throwing failed sowing pots away!

I will second that edds.
Most high altitude South American species can be left a while to germinate.
But as you say Darren it is most likely the warm weather with cool nights.

It's annoying when you've given up on a pot of seed and reused the compost for something else, only for it to germinate very much later. I've no idea what this is.

And again...
New seedling in the centre. Left hand one germinated February, right hand one in May. Again - this has happened in several pots this week, and across different species.
