I sowed a lot of seed supplied by Ladislav Fischer in 2020, and these are now a reasonable size and flowering well this spring. Among them were several different collection numbers of Aylostera einsteinii. This species is rather different from the other Aylosteras with a distinctive look about it, and distinctive flower anatomy, and occurs at the southern end of the range for the genus.
Aylostera einsteinii LF55a (from Nevado de Acay, in Argentina, yellow flower), LF55b, yellow flower and LF55/x (both from Encrucijada, Argentina) show interesting varation. From what I can gather the two sites are a few 10s of km apart, so not far. I'm not sure whether LF55/x denotes hybridisation- does anyone know? LF55/x was advertised as "super rare, red flowers" but comes up sometimes with red, sometimes with yellow, flowers. I'm not discounting the possibility that there has been some inadvertent seed mixing!
The spination is wildly varied too, but then I've often found that with Aylosteras even from the same seed pod.
Here are three photos: the first of LF55b, the second and third of LF55x.
LF55a and b are the typical yellow form of A. einsteinii.
LF55/x apparently has two colour forms.

Re: Aylostera einsteinii variation
Excellent
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs. Recently discovered gorgeous Gasteria.
