Interesting Eric, I thought they usually flowered in the late summer or early autumn when they are just starting into growth.

I my experience this species flowers over the winter, depending on light level. As a result I give this species a drink now and again over winter.

It flowers more or less at any time, depending on the conditions.

Perhaps mine is just unusually well behaved. :)

Pleiospilos do most of their growing during summer, they are not obligate winter-growers.

The normal flowering time for P. nelii is now and they flower OK even if they have been dry since last October.

The cultivar 'Royal Flush' of P. nelii carries the purple pigment of its body up into the flower too. This is the only mesemb I know where this happens, one certainly doesn't get it with Lithops 'Rubra' or Conophytum 'Makin's Plum'

The other three Pleiospilos species flower in late summer with plain yellow flowers.

I also have a few plants of the "royal flush " type, well in bud for weeks, perhaps waiting for some sun. Cheers

Mine is in flower now. It seems to be on an end-of-winter flowering schedule for now.
