Cacti & succulents on tv again
Yesterday's Beechgrove programme featured some great cacti and succulents in Hamish McKelvie's collection. There was also a short piece on propagation. It is repeated on BBC2 Sunday morning or you can get it on catchup (BBC Scotland).

Great to see Hamish again and his previous greenhouses from a few years ago.
I was privileged to visit Hamish just after he moved and whilst he was relocating from the old to the new site - so I saw the best of both.
Good to see the venerable Punotia lagopus was singled out.

Yes, it would be nice to have that growing on your back lawn, wouldn't it?!

Hamish most likely has the perfect weather for growing P. lagopus
It is one hell of a plant though

What an interesting programme. Not seen this before but will dip in again. The way the collection was filmed puts GW in the shade....

Beechgrove is consistently better than Gardeners' World, mainly because it is presented by people who understand plants and gardening (sorry Carol K, you're the exception). Did others notice Mr. Don telling us to plant our Nerine bowdenii bulbs deeply, earlier this year? It is a great shame that south of the border it is tucked into a slot when few people are likely to be watching TV, it deserves better.
