Asda opuntias

Post by greatnorthernexotic »

Asda is stocking a few opuntias currently. I picked up this Opuntia vulgaris (labelled as such but perhaps a synonym?) and wondered why the grower has done this to what I presume is a fruit? It looks like they've cut the fruit out and filled it with wax. Is this a common practice?

It's not wax. Most opuntia fruits leave a concave depression when the flower remains detach from the fruiting body.
